The Inspiration

On 8 March 1950, the first Volkswagen Type 2 rolled off the production line in Wolfsburg.

Originally created as a practical commercial vehicle, it would go on to become something far greater. Westfalia soon began transforming the Type 2 into campervans, helping turn a working vehicle into a new way to travel, explore and experience life on the road.

Over the decades that followed, the Type 2 became closely associated with freedom, individuality and adventure, helping to shape a culture that continues to inspire generations.

The Beginning Hoodie looks back to that starting point, the moment from which more than seventy years of van culture would grow.

The Design

The artwork brings together a series of details that connect the beginning of the Type 2 story with the journeys still to come.

The date 08.03.1950 marks the day the first Volkswagen Type 2 left the Wolfsburg production line, while the coordinates of the Wolfsburg factory pinpoint the place where that journey began.

Topographic lines run through the design as a representation of movement, exploration and the individual paths we choose to take. They connect the historical starting point of the Type 2 with the journeys still to come, taking something rooted in the past and giving it a personal connection to the present.

Together, these elements create a design built around a simple idea: every journey begins somewhere.

The Meaning

What began as a practical vehicle went on to become a symbol of freedom, creativity and the possibility of taking a different path.

The Beginning Hoodie celebrates both the origin of that story and everything that followed, from one production line in Wolfsburg to generations of journeys made around the world.

At its heart, the design is a reminder that the most memorable journeys often begin with a single moment, decision or direction.

Because wherever the road eventually leads, every journey has a beginning.

The Colour Palette

The artwork uses Sand Green (L311), one of the original colours offered on early VW T1 models. Its understated tone reflects the simplicity of the earliest vehicles and connects this garment to the beginning of over seventy years of van culture.

Heavyweight Fabric

Every Vanture garment begins with a deliberate choice of foundation. For the Beginning Hoodie, we selected a premium 320 GSM cotton-rich fleece that delivers substance, comfort and durability in equal measure.

The heavyweight construction gives the hoodie a reassuring feel without compromising everyday wearability. A soft brushed interior provides warmth and comfort against the skin, while the cotton-faced outer creates a smooth, refined surface that showcases every printed detail with exceptional clarity. The fabric is also pre-shrunk to help maintain its shape and fit over time.

Relaxed Fit

Finished with a relaxed silhouette, drop shoulders, a self-lined hood, ribbed cuffs and hem, and a generous kangaroo pocket, every element has been chosen to create a garment that feels as considered as the story it carries.

Designed to be worn season after season, this is a hoodie made not just for the journey ahead, but for the memories collected along the way.

Print Quality

Every Vanture design begins long before ink meets fabric. Each graphic is carefully developed and refined to ensure every line, colour and detail is reproduced exactly as intended.

Using premium printing techniques, the artwork is printed directly into the fibres of the garment, creating a soft, breathable finish that preserves the natural feel of the fabric. This process allows subtle details, fine linework and tonal variation to be captured with exceptional clarity while avoiding the heavy texture often associated with traditional print methods.

Every garment is printed individually, ensuring each piece receives the same level of care and attention before progressing to the next stage of production.
