The Inspiration

Produced from 1967 to 1979, the Volkswagen T2 took the foundations laid by the original Type 2 and carried them into a new era.

More refined and evolved than its predecessor, the T2 retained the unmistakable character of the original while becoming an increasingly familiar sight on roads, campsites and journeys around the world. Camper conversions, including those by Westfalia, helped make it a vehicle for travelling further, staying longer and experiencing life beyond the everyday.

During the late 1960s and 1970s, the T2 became closely connected with a generation drawn to travel, individuality and a greater sense of freedom.

The T2 Era T-Shirt celebrates that chapter and the vehicle that carried the spirit of van culture forward.

The Design

The artwork is built around the distinctive character of the T2, capturing the vehicle that defined the second generation of the Volkswagen Type 2.

The design draws on details from its 1967 to 1979 production era, combining the recognisable form of the T2 with references to the history and identity of the vehicle.

Rather than simply depicting a classic campervan, the artwork is intended as a record of an era. Each element connects back to the vehicle, its history and the period in which van travel became increasingly associated with exploration and the freedom of the open road.

Together, these details create a design that celebrates both the evolution of the Type 2 and the distinctive generation of van culture that grew around it.

The Meaning

The T2 represents a period when the idea of travelling by van became about far more than simply getting from one place to another.

It offered the freedom to take the road less travelled, turn unfamiliar places into temporary homes and experience the journey as much as the destination.

The T2 Era T-Shirt celebrates that spirit and the generations of travellers, adventurers and free thinkers who helped make the vehicle an enduring symbol of life on the road.

The Colour Palette

The artwork uses Pastel White / Pastellweiß (L90D) and Neptune Blue / Neptunblau (L50K), an iconic two-tone colour combination offered on the VW T2.

The pairing reflects the distinctive character of the era, combining a clean, understated upper tone with a rich blue that connects the design directly to the visual heritage of the VW T2.

Heavyweight Fabric

Every Vanture garment begins with a deliberate choice of foundation. For the T2 Era T-Shirt, we selected a premium 280 GSM heavyweight cotton jersey that delivers substance, comfort and durability in equal measure.

The heavyweight jersey gives the T-shirt a substantial feel and considered structure while remaining comfortable and breathable for everyday wear. Its smooth cotton surface provides an ideal foundation for the artwork, allowing fine detail, linework and colour to be reproduced with clarity.

Pre-shrunk for greater consistency, the fabric is designed to retain its shape and character over time, creating a T-shirt that feels reassuringly substantial from the first wear and is made to remain part of your journey for years to come.

Relaxed Fit
